FAQ
What should I expect?
Please arrive at your scheduled appointment time or a little early so you are not rushing and you can be seen on time. We serve water and tea if you would like refreshments.
Try to remember to wear loose, comfortable clothing but we also have gowns available for you if needed.
During your initial consultation you will fill out a thorough medical history outlining previous conditions, current symptoms, possible hereditary disorders, etc. Your medical history will be used along with an examination to come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan if your clinician believes that you may benefit from treatment.
Your personalized treatment plan may consist of acupuncture, manual therapies like massage, corrective exercises, herbal formulas, dietary changes or lifestyle counseling.
The treatment will begin with the painless insertion of 10-20 sterile, ultra fine disposable acupuncture needles into specific locations on your body.
Most people find this deeply relaxing and many will drift off to sleep.
You will be in treatment for approximately 20-30 minutes. Expect to be in the office for about 40 minutes to 1 hour for your follow up visits but give yourself 1.5 hours for the initial consultation, examination and treatment.
Does acupuncture really work?
Yes, but don’t take our word for it…
Acupuncture has been used by millions of Americans and is recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Mayo Pain Clinic.
- The NIH published their Consensus Statement stating “The data in support of acupuncture are as strong as those for many accepted Western medical therapies. One of the advantages of acupuncture is that the incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures used for the same conditions.” *
- The FDA regulates acupuncture needles as medical devices in the category of “safe and effective.”
- The WHO recognizes over 40 health conditions effectively treated with acupuncture.
- The Mayo Pain Clinic has been using acupuncture since 1974.
