Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that pre-dates the use of Acupuncture. It is this long and distinguished history of Chinese Herbal Medicine being practiced on humans that has been used to test its safety and effectiveness. We prescribe herbal medicine in much the same way a medical doctor prescribes pharmaceutical medication. In many cases taking your formula as directed it is just as important as your acupuncture treatment if not more vital in many cases.

Many of our modern medications come from these naturally occurring substances. Some of the herbs we use have anti-bacterial, anti-viral or anti-fungal properties. Others can help relieve pain, regulate heartbeat, raise or lower blood pressure, increase circulation, decrease inflammation and even boost overall immune levels partly by increasing white blood cell counts.

Our herbal medications are not vitamins or supplements that you can buy a the health food store. They are specific combinations of mainly plant based substances that are used in the treatment of your specific condition or disease. A.J. and Monica have undergone extensive training in how to properly use and prescribe these formulas during the entire length of their full time 4 year post graduate masters program in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is often used in conjunction with Acupuncture in order to achieve the best and most long lasting results. A specific herbal formula is often given to the patient at the end of an acupuncture treatment to be taken as advised. Most often the patient will take the prescribed dose 3-4 times a day until the condition subsides or until the next follow-up appointment.

For your convenience we prescribe our formulas in pills, capsules or powder form.
